A Slow Morning at Playa Biesanz

By
October 12, 2026

The best way to enjoy Playa Biesanz is slowly: an early breakfast at ECOTICA, a 4-minute ride, a short forest path and a calm cove to yourself while the morning is still soft. By late morning you are back at the hotel for lunch, the pool or a Jungle Spa treatment, and the afternoon heat never touches you. Here is how we like to spend that morning, step by step.

If you want the practical details first (parking, the path down, what the water is like), our Playa Biesanz guide covers everything. This post is the slower version: the morning itself.

6:30 am: Breakfast at La POZA

La POZA opens at 6 am, and the first hour is the quiet one. The air is cool, the pool is still as glass and the trees around it are waking up: howler monkeys calling somewhere up the hill, toucans moving between branches, sometimes a sloth hanging in no particular hurry. Breakfast is included in your stay, so order without thinking too hard about it, have a second coffee and watch the forest come to life.

Before you leave, fill a water bottle, put on reef-safe sunscreen and slip your water shoes into the bag. Swap sandals for shoes with real grip: the path down to the cove is short, but steep in spots.

7:30 am: A Short Ride to the Cove

Playa Biesanz is about 1.6 km from ECOTICA, roughly 4 minutes by car via Calle Mariposa. We usually suggest a taxi, since there is no parking lot at the beach, only roadside spots watched by an informal car-watcher. Leave your car in our free parking and the whole morning stays simple. If you feel like stretching your legs, the walk is about 27 minutes on the road.

The trail starts by the roadside just before the Parador resort, on the right. One moment you are on the road, the next you are under the canopy, stepping down through the trees with glimpses of blue between the leaves. It usually takes under 10 minutes, and every step is worth it.

8:00 am: The Cove Before It Wakes Up

Arriving early is the whole secret. The cove is small and sheltered, with forest running right down to the sand, and in the morning the water is often at its calmest. Spread your towel in the shade, listen to the birds and let the day start without you.

When you are ready, wade in. On calm days the water is lovely for an unhurried swim, and if you brought a mask, the edges of the cove have some colourful fish to find. The snorkeling here is modest rather than dramatic, which suits a slow morning perfectly. Informal vendors often rent snorkel gear, kayaks and paddleboards, plus chairs and umbrellas, so you can travel light. 10:30 am: Back Up the Path

By late morning the sun is higher and the cove begins to fill. That is our cue. High cliffs shade Biesanz in the late afternoon anyway, so the morning really is its golden window. Pack up, keep your bag close as you would at any popular beach, and take the path back up at an easy pace.

Noon: Lunch, Then the Pool or the Spa

Back at ECOTICA, lunch is waiting at La POZA or at YOLO Social, which opens at 11 am. Then the afternoon is yours to do very little. Float in the pool while the monkeys pass through the trees, or book a treatment at the Jungle Spa (open daily 7 am–7 pm): after salt water and sun, a massage in the middle of the rainforest feels like the natural end of the story.

This is the quiet advantage of staying at a boutique hotel in Manuel Antonio so close to the beaches: the sea in the morning, the jungle in the afternoon, and no long drives in between.

Our Tips for a Slow Biesanz Morning

  • Go early. Mornings are calmer, cooler and sunnier at the cove.
  • Wear proper shoes for the path and bring water shoes for the rocky edges.
  • Pack light: water, a snack, reef-safe sunscreen, a towel and some small bills for rentals or drinks.
  • Read the water. The cove is usually calm, though it can get choppy; on livelier days, enjoy the sand and shade.
  • Leave valuables at the hotel and keep your bag with you on the beach.
  • Keep it for a Tuesday. The national park closes every Tuesday, and Biesanz is a free public beach. Plan the park for another day with our park tickets and hours guide.
