The short answer: you do not need a guide to enter Manuel Antonio National Park, but a certified naturalist guide makes a huge difference. Guides carry a spotting scope and know where the animals rest, so you see sloths, monkeys, snakes and birds you would walk right past on your own. For a first visit, we recommend one.

How a guided visit works
Guided walks usually start early, when the forest is most active, and last about two to three hours on the main trails, ending near the beaches where you can stay on your own afterward. Groups are small, and private guides are available for families and couples.

Booking a guide
Only hire certified naturalist guides. Our concierge books trusted guides for you and times your entry with your park ticket. Remember the park is closed on Tuesdays, and tickets are sold online only: our park guide has hours and prices.
