The short answer: three to four nights is enough for most visitors to Manuel Antonio. That gives you one unhurried morning in the national park, time on the beaches, one big adventure or a catamaran trip, and a slow day at the pool or the spa. Two nights feels rushed; five to seven turns it into a true rainforest holiday.

One rule shapes every plan: Manuel Antonio National Park is closed on Tuesdays. If your stay includes a Tuesday, make it your beach, spa or adventure day. Tickets are sold online only through SINAC, so buy them before you arrive. Our guide to the best time to visit the park has hours, prices and the best hour for wildlife.
A 3-day plan for Manuel Antonio
Day 1: Arrive, settle in, sunset
Most travelers arrive from San José in the afternoon, about three and a half hours by road, or by a short domestic flight to Quepos. Drop your bags, take a swim and watch the monkeys come through the trees before dinner. End the day with a sunset over the Pacific.

Day 2: The national park, early
Be at the gate in the first hour after it opens, when the air is cool and the animals are awake. A certified naturalist guide with a spotting scope finds the sloths you would walk past alone. Plan three to four hours for the trails and the park’s white-sand beaches, then lunch and a lazy afternoon.

Day 3: The ocean or an adventure
Choose a catamaran trip with snorkeling, a zip line, rafting, a kayak tour or a chocolate, coffee and vanilla farm. In the evening, a night walk shows you the frogs and insects that hide by day.

Adding a fourth day and more
- A slow day at the hotel: breakfast, the pool, a massage, a nap. Wildlife comes to you.
- Another beach: Playa Espadilla, Biesanz and the park’s beaches each have their own character; read our beaches guide.
- Quepos and the marina: sportfishing, sunset sails and local restaurants.
- A day trip south: waterfalls and quieter beaches along the coast toward Dominical and Uvita.

Questions travelers ask
Is one day enough for Manuel Antonio?
One day lets you see the park, but you will spend much of it on the road. Two nights is the minimum we suggest; three is better.
What should I skip if I only have two nights?
Keep the park morning and one beach afternoon. Save the tours for next time.
Can I visit the park on a Tuesday?
No, the park is closed on Tuesdays. Plan a beach, spa or tour day instead.
Is Manuel Antonio good in the rainy season?
Yes. Mornings are often clear, the forest is lush and the park is quieter. Plan outdoor time early and keep the afternoon for the spa or the pool.
